Fool's Heart

This is Mirabelle. She is a clockmaker's granddaughter and a very gifted mechanic in a world that runs almost entirely on magic, but too meek, docile and altruistic for her own good. Thus she has done something very foolish - given her heart away for an unrequited love for a necromancer. Literally.

Sadly, her body didn't take well to the mechanical replacement she'd carefully crafted, which leads to a rather gruesome death.

I've worked quite some time on this piece and I'm happy it's finally finished, even though it's not as Steampunk-y as I've originally intended it to be. Some of the buildings in the background are based on a city that's very dear to me, although it's not my hometown: Dresden.

While drawing, I've mostly listened to Paul Shapera's 'The Steampunk Opera' which's release I've eagerly anticipated for months. It's been very inspirational. I urge you to give it a listen if you don't know it yet, because it's just that good. [link]
